Accounting Clerk I Job Description

 

 

 

The Accounting Clerk I will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • Prepare, analyze, review, and reconcile financial accounting reports and data for the analysis of management, state and federal agencies

  • Process a variety of weekly, monthly, annual forms and reports to ensure proper and complete accountability of funds

  • Examine and check documents for conformity with District policies and federal and state laws and regulations

  • Compute and verify salaries for payroll, bills for service, invoices, purchase orders and/or other data for accurate recording and processing

  • Monitor pay and time sheets

  • Post debits and credits to appropriate accounts

  • Receive, record and deposit cash receipts

  • Balance accounts and bank statements, and perform other general bookkeeping duties as required

  • Record and process personnel transactions and employee evaluations

  • Maintain employee leave records and salary schedules

  • Prepare accounts payable and/or payroll checks, audit payroll

  • Receive and respond to inquiries from management and staff regarding budgets and accounts

  • Compile data for financial comparisons, analysis and forecasting

  • Maintain and update records including name change, emergency contact, social security numbers, teacher certification, retirement, increments in pay, etc.

  • Assist in the preparation of special budgets and year-end financial reports and statements

  • Perform computer data entry to record, update and retrieve department information and to prepare spreadsheets, reports and correspondence

  • Perform general clerical work as necessary, including but not limited to answering the telephone, typing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, processing daily mail, etc.

  • Receive, review, prepare and/or submit a variety of documents which may include salary schedules, personnel transaction forms, employee records, rosters, performance appraisals, expenditure requests, change orders, payroll reports, S.C. Retirement and Employment Security reports, tax forms, journals, ledgers, invoices, receipts, vouchers, magnetic tapes, surveys, requisitions, checks, budget documents, annual reports, memos, correspondence, etc.

  • Operate a variety of equipment, which may include a computer, Internet, e-mail, scanner, printer, typewriter, copier, fax machine, binding machine, adding machine, safe, ID camera, telephone, etc.

  • Interact and communicate with departmental supervisors and co-workers, district department heads and employees, state and federal agency representatives, IRS, vendors, etc.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Accounting Clerk I Job

  • One year or more of experience with accounts payable

  • One year or more of experience with governmental accounting

  • Experience with accounts payable using an automated management/accounting system.

  • One to two years of bookkeeping/accounting experience.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Accounting Clerk I Job

  • High school diploma.
