Job Description:

The Driver will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • Drive truck to deliver gasses and hard goods to customer's place of business. Issue or obtain customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery

  • Make deliveries outside of regular route to provide customers with product

  • Issue or obtain customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery

  • Collect empty cylinders or rejected or unsold merchandise

  • Load truck

  • Collect money from customers, make change and record transactions on customer receipt

  • Write customer order and instruction

  • Record sales or delivery information on daily sales or delivery record

  • Listen to and resolve service complaints

  • Give feedback to supervisor about customer complaints and requirements

  • Clean inside of truck

  • Perform routine maintenance checks on truck

  • Comply with all company policies, safety policies and procedures and DOT requirements

  • Work safely and meet the requirements of all safety procedures and rules as prescribed by State, Federal, and the Company

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to write routine reports and record information

  • Ability to speak effectively before customers or associates

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percent

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit while making deliveries; use hands to finger, handle, or feel while making deliveries

  • Ability to reach with hands and arms; talk to or hear customers; and smell leaking gas from cylinders

  • Ability to occasionally climb or balance

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 60 pounds and move more than 125 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment

  • Specific vision abilities, including close, distance and color vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Minimum Educational Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Driver Job

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid CDL class A or B with hazardous material, air brakes and tanker endorsements.

Job Description:

The Truck Driver will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • Drive tractor-trailer combination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations, to transport and deliver products or materials

  • Maneuver truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from spotter as needed

  • Read bill of lading and obtain customer's signature

  • Maintain driver log according to I.C.C. regulations

  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods

  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order

  • Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations

  • Load, unload, or assist in loading and unloading truck

  • Assist workers in loading and unloading truck

  • Wrap goods using pads, packing paper, and containers, and secure load to trailer wall using straps

  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved

  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers

  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required

  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate

  • Support and participate with Safety Team meetings and activities

  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Truck Driver Job

  • 23 years of age

  • CDL Class A with Hazmat endorsement

  • 2 years of tractor trailer driving experience in the last 5 years

  • 2 years of clean DMV/MVR record

  • Dealing with people skills, reliable and customer oriented, and ability to work independently

  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment

  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location

  • Complete employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening

  • Ability to regularly lift and /or move up to 25lbs/12kg, frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs/45kg

  • Possess Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to regularly stand; walk; sit and talk or hear

Example 4: Commercial Driver Job Description

Job Summary:

The Commercial Driver, under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, will be responsible for loading, unloading and transporting materials and patients to and from designated facilities. He/She will operates special vehicles requiring CDL licensure and training.

Job Description:

The Commercial Driver will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards

  • Load and unload truck using pallet jack, four-wheel truck, two-wheel cart and hydraulic tailgate

  • Maintain the vehicles; drive them to designated services station for maintenance, repair and refueling

  • Maintain service logs and daily vehicle inspection reports

  • Participate in educational programs and inservice meetings

  • Attend mandatory meetings

  • May have to operate a commercial truck in the delivery of laundry

  • Drive truck, bus, station wagon or other hospital vehicles to transport Hospital members to outside appointments

  • May have to pick up and deliver mail, perform bank transactions and to run other errands

  • Demonstrate supportive attitude towards patients/residents, visitors and/or staff. Communicate effectively and tactfully with resident/patients recognizing their age, needs and abilities

  • Provide suggestions to management to improve overall quality of day to day operations

  • Report all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor, including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be a potential threat or cause danger to a resident/patient

  • Understand and follow Universal Precautions as it pertains to their department

  • 6-12 months experience as a Commercial Driver preferred.
