Example 1: Medical Assistant Job Description

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant will interview patients, measure vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and record information on patients' charts.

Job Description:

The Medical Assistant will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • He/She will prepare treatment rooms and patients for examination; clean and sterilize instruments

  • The Medical Assistant will inventory and order medical supplies and materials

  • He/She will operate electrocardiograph (EKG) and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests; give injections or treatments and perform routine laboratory tests

  • The Medical Assistant will schedule appointments and make follow up phone calls to patients; perform administrative tasks, complete appropriate client company and OSHA regulated forms, and provide assistance at front desk

  • Key data into computer to maintain clinic and patient records

  • The Medical Assistant will perform other duties that may be assigned

  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Medical Assistant Job

  • The Medical Assistant should be able to perform both back and front office duties

  • He/She must become certified within the first 90 days of employment

  • He/She must obtain a basic Cardiac Life Support Certification within the first 3 months of employment

  • The Medical Assistant should possess average data entry skills. 

Minimum Educational Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Medical Assistant Job

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and two years previous experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient clinic; or completion of a Nursing Assistant program and two years previous experience as a patient care assistant, preferably a primary care setting; or High School diploma or general education (GED) and three years primary care experience. Some applicants may be required to possess a radiological safety certificate

  • Preference may be given to candidates who possess a Medical Assistant Certification from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or a similarly recognized certifying organization.


Example 2: Medical Technologist Job Description

Job Summary:

The Medical Technologist will be responsible for performing clinical tests and procedures in all functional section of the laboratory. He/She will maintain records of performance as defined by laboratoryís standard operating procedures.

Job Description:

The Medical Technologist will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • Perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, select and perform additional procedures when indicated

  • He/She will follow prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results

  • Perform and document calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment

  • The Medical Technologist will perform and document quality control

  • Recognize indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and implement appropriate corrections

  • He/She will ascertain that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing

  • Collect specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol

  • The Medical Technologist will provide general direction and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support personnel

  • Assist in the development of education and training protocols

  • Instruct students, residents and new personnel as assigned

  • Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes

  • Ensure compliance with all accrediting agency standards

  • Document all appropriate information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocol

  • Perform other duties assigned.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Medical Technologist Job

  • Knowledge of medical technology, biology, chemistry, microbiology or related field

  • Working Conditions: Knowledge of universal precautions, and hazardous material

  • Hazardous Conditions: Constant potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and body fluids. May be exposed to chemicals, sharps and needles, mechanical equipment, and potential electrical hazards

  • Adverse Conditions: Must wear gloves, barrier protection gowns for most work activities.

Minimum Educational Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Medical Technologist Job

  • Regionally accredited bachelorís degree program

  • Must hold or be qualified to hold a current certification as a Medical Technologist as certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the National Credentialing Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel, or other appropriate certifying agency. Certification must be obtained within one year of employment.


Example 3: Medical Billing Supervisor Job Description

Job Summary:

The Medical Billing Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Accounts Receivable, revenue recognition, billing and cash application reporting and reconciliations.

Job Description:

The Medical Billing Supervisor will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily and monthly revenue and cash activities to ensure that all payments are posted and that revenues are recorded timely and accurately

  • Plan, organize, develop, and implement financial standards, policies, procedures and rules

  • Audit methods and procedures of the accounts receivable function to improve efficiency and maintain accurate records

  • Ensure compliance will federal, state and local regulations and statutes

  • Complete monthly review of balance sheet accounts, in particular, the bad debt reserve, reviewing sales allowance and accurately forecasting that for the remainder of the year, as applicable

  • Audit monthly procedures to be followed by each site ensuring all applicable information is received by company due dates

  • Analyze, interpret and communicate accounts receivable issues requiring managementís attention

  • Maintain accounts receivable processing manual and reference materials

  • Ensure adherence to all corporate policies and procedures

  • Maintain appropriate relationships with payer agencies to facilitate timely billing and collections

  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise Accounts Receivable Coordinators in collaboration with the Accounts Receivable Manager

  • Ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance with all assigned areas and other audit requirements

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Medical Billing Supervisor Job

  • Five years experience in Accounts Receivable

  • Some supervisory experience

  • Knowledge of Oracle financials or other ERP system

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the field

  • Excellent computer skills, data entry speed and accuracy, and related office equipment

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word

  • Strong accounts receivable experience

  • Ability to quickly grasp and learn new accounting principles

  • Strong analytical skills.

Minimum Educational Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Medical Billing Supervisor Job

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Post secondary degree in Accounting or related field preferred.


Example 4: Medical Records Technician Job Description

Job Summary:

The Medical Records Technician will be responsible for providing efficient and accurate information to provide quality patient care and assure smooth operations of other services throughout the facility. He/She will work under the direct supervision of the Radiology/Imaging Supervisor.

Job Description:

The Medical Records Technician will perform all or some of the following duties & responsibilities:

  • Act as the receptionist, greet patients and visitors, and handle issues independently

  • Oversee the registration area of the department and identify areas for efficiency improvement

  • Utilize an electronic system to register patients

  • Utilize radiology programs and packages such as VistA Rad, E-Film and Roxio Easy to duplicate digital images

  • You will provide leadership in delivering and improving holistic patient care through collaborative strategies with others

  • Positively communicate and interact with customers from various economic and social backgrounds

  • Responsible to maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and verbal patient and employee information

  • Maintain a continuing positive relationship with management, co-workers, patients, and the general public that is consistently courteous, respectful, and cooperative in nature

  • Perform other duties assigned.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Medical Records Technician Job

  • Two years of experience that demonstrates the applicantís ability to perform the work, or provide familiarity with the work

  • Six months of the required 2 years of experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (KSAs) needed to perform MRT work

  • Knowledge of Current Medical Record Technology.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy/pathophysiology, and disease processes sufficient to appropriately file, locate, and disclose health information

  • Ability to correctly apply a practical knowledge of laws and regulations related to the confidentiality of health information and the release of information from medical records

  • Knowledge of the internal organization of medical records and medical record references and procedures as appropriate to the position

  • Ability to use health information software appropriate to the position, such as the electronic patient record, record tracking systems, chart deficiency systems, coding and abstracting systems, release of information systems, document scanning technology, electronic spreadsheets, transcription systems, encoder products, electronic encounter forms, database software, etc.

Minimum Educational Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Medical Records Technician Job

  • Associateís degree with a major field of study in medical record technology/health information technology which was accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) at the time the program was completed.
    Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying.
