The Charge Nurse will perform all or some of the following Job description:

• The Charge Nurse will serve as the clinical leader on the unit and responsible for coordinating nursing care for patients on assigned unit

• He/She will participate in patient/family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting

• The Charge Nurse will effectively provide age appropriate care.  

• The Charge Nurse should possess 2 years recent acute care RN experience in the same or a similar unit

• He/She should possess previous charge nurse experience and/or 2 years relevant leadership experience

• The Charge Nurse should have effective communication skills

• He/She must have the ability to plan and direct work activities of staff to achieve organization, unit, shift and patient care goals

• He/She should have the ability to manage time effectively and set priorities

• The Charge Nurse must have the ability to gather, collate and classify information

• He/She must be able to resolve problems independently and make decisions

• He/She must have the ability to function as a resource to all levels of nursing and unit personnel to provide optimal patient care

• The Charge Nurse should have strong computer skills

• He/She should have the knowledge of current area of specialty nursing practices, techniques and procedures

• The Charge Nurse must have excellent customer service and communication skills

• He/She must be able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously

• He/She must have the ability to facilitate staff accountability and clinical development of team members

• The Charge Nurse must be able to determine most effective use of resources to achieve unit fiscal and patient care quality goals.

• The Charge Nurse must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred
• He/She must be currently licensed as a Sate Registered Nurse
• He/She should have certification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, (based on unit specific needs); certification in specialty preferred.
