Job Summary:
The
Infection Control Nurse is responsible
for providing infection control
orientation for hospital staff,
identifying and assessing the
educational needs of hospital staff and
providing leadership and consultation to
staff to monitor infection control
procedures in accordance with Hospital’s
policies. He /She is responsible for
identifying the occurrence of outbreaks
or clusters of infectious diseases, and
monitoring nosocomial infections and
antibiotic usage.

The
Infection Control Nurse will perform
all or some of the following Job
description:

Promote inter-and intra-departmental
cooperation and coordination within
the hospital in order to ensure
positive relations
-
Chair
the Infection Control Committee
meeting monthly. Participate in
committee meetings as assigned
-
Maintain compliance with regulatory
and accreditation requirements
-
Collaborate with and provide liaison
to appropriate state and local
health departments for reporting
communicable diseases and related
conditions
-
Access medical records or other
relevant documents to provide
information on adequacy of
compliance with regard to
regulations, standards and
guidelines
-
Monitor facility for safety and
cleanliness through monthly rounds
with the safety officer and risk
manager
-
Provide infection control reports
monthly and quarterly.

Provide orientation for all newly
hired staff
-
Plan
and implement educational programs
pertaining to infection prevention
and control for hospital staff
-
Work
collaboratively with the Human
Resource Department and Occupational
Health to ensure employee health
issues are addressed in a timely
manner
-
Organize and provide influenza
immunizations on an annual basis
-
In
conjunction with Human Resources,
ensure annual Mantoux’s are up to
date.

patients and their families

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and
skills necessary to provide care
appropriate to the age of patients
served throughout the hospital

Knowledge of the principles of
growth and development over the life
span

Ability to access data reflective of
the patient’s status, interpret the
appropriate information needed to
identify each patient’s
requirement’s relative to his or her
age-specific needs, and to provide
the care needed as described in the
hospital’s policies and procedures.
Minimum Education Requirements /
Certification / Licensure For Infection
Control Nurse Job
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an
accredited School of Nursing and/or
Bachelor’s Degree in a related
health care field with a Diploma in
Nursing from an accredited School of
Nursing. Specialized training in
infection control to be completed
within one year of obtaining
position
-
2 - 4
years of related experience
-
CPR
certified
-
State
registered nursing license with
current registration.
