Job Summary:
The
Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse is
responsible for coordinating a
comprehensive program for the nursing
care, education and rehabilitation of
patients requiring wound, ostomy, and
incontinence care.

Description:
The
Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse will perform
all or some of the following Job
description:
-
Collaborate with the nursing and
medical staff to provide/instruct
the following in patient care for
the following patients: altered
patterns of bowel or urinary
elimination, fistulas, draining
wounds, and altered skin integrity
-
Provide outpatient consultation
services
-
Collaborate with the department of
Education and Research to provide
nursing staff with education related
to current concepts of wound, ostomy,
continence care
-
Meet
periodically with appliance
manufacturers’ representatives to
keep current in the advances of
available products
-
Investigate and recommend new
approaches in the nursing care of
wound, ostomy, and continence
patients
-
Maintain and submit necessary
reports and records pertaining to
specialty. Compile monthly and
annual reports.

Collaborate with the Distribution
Department to maintain adequate
inventories of supplies related to
the specialty
-
Recommend, through departmental
committees, the investigation,
research or follow up of clinical
studies
-
Monitor staff documentation related
to care of any wound, ostomy, and
continence patients
-
Recommend changes to the wound
ostomy continence practice to
improve the standard of care
-
Perform other related functions as
assigned.
Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four
year college or university

Current Sate RN licensure
-
Current CPR card.
